Asia Pacific Week 2021 Online Conference

Asia Pacific Week held by The Australian National University is open for applications to join this year in an online four-day Asia Pacific Conference. The theme for this year is “Unveiling layers of crises: learning from the past, reimagining the future.” and partnering with Youth Opportunities as their Official Outreach Partner. This will be the second year that the APW Conference will be held online. They aim to bring young individuals from all across the world new insight, upgrade their skills, build up their empathy and become compassionate leaders.

Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) Global 2021

The Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) Global is an eight-month program that inspires, equips, and enables youth of different nationalities to scale up their social enterprises in Singapore and beyond.

Since 2010, YSE Global has nurtured a network of youth with innovative business ideas focused on social good. This program offers a chance to learn from leading social entrepreneurs, business professionals, and like-minded youth who are interested in social innovation while expanding your networks for potential collaborations for good around the world.

Admitted participants will attend the YSE Global 2021 – Workshop held online from July to August 2021, and pitch for a chance to be shortlisted into the next phase of the program, which includes customized mentorship with industry leaders, regional learning, and an opportunity to pitch for funding.

Multimedia Intern at Human Rights Watch

The Multimedia Division at Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking undergraduate and graduate students in film, content marketing, journalism, or related fields to be a Multimedia intern for summer 2021. Ideally, the candidate will be available full time for 3 months (dates and times are flexible). There is a preference for the candidate to be based in the United States; however the possibility of interning from other HRW offices (Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, or Zurich) will also be considered.

Due to COVID-19, many of our offices remain closed or are open at a limited capacity. HRW prioritizes the safety of our interns. In locations that have eased office restrictions and are open at a limited capacity, interns are not expected to report to the office and remote arrangements will remain an option for the foreseeable future. However, interns may have the option of reporting to an office on a voluntary basis in accordance with HRW’s COVID-19 policies.

  1. Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate/graduate program for the duration of the internship term is required. The internship must be a required part of the intern’s academic program for successful applicants in certain jurisdictions
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential;
  3. Strong interest in YouTube content creation and distribution, and/or video data analysis are highly preferred;
  4. Some knowledge or experience using video/photo editing tools, and/or experience in social media distribution strategy is a plus.

BENEFITS

  1. Interns located in the United States will be paid an hourly wage of USD 15.00 per hour.
  2. Human Rights Watch offers twenty (20) days of vacation prorated per year pursuant to the work schedule and length of employment.
  3. Interns located in other jurisdictions will receive compensation based on local law and HRW policy. 
  4. Students may also be able to arrange academic credit, as Human Rights Watch internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by HRW staff, and interaction with the other US and international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials.

Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS)

Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue postgraduate academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support the Malaysian Government’s effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad. 

Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship, hence further their studies in Malaysian public universities and selected private Higher Learning Institutions at postgraduate level. 

The call for application for the year 2021 is limited to students from ASEAN member countries, the Kingdom of Morocco and Palestine. The online application system will be opened from 1st March 2021 until 30th April 2021

ELIGIBILITIES

Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS), applicants must COMPLY to the following criteria: 
1. Not be more than 40 and 45 years of age for Master and PhD respectively. 
2. For the Master’s Degree Program, applicants should obtain a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at Bachelor Degree level. 
3. For PhD Program, applicants should obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or a very good result at the Master’s degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. 
4. Proof of English Language Proficiency: – Scanned copy of the original proof of English Language Proficiency such as IELTS (minimum total score 6.5); or TOEFL internet-based test, iBT (minimum total score of 92); or – Applicants obtaining Degrees with English as the medium of instructions may also be accepted (evidence is a prerequisite). 
5. Submission of a written proposal with a minimum of 1,000 words that is relevant to the field of studies. Priority will be given to the following areas of study:

-Science and Engineering 
-Agriculture and Fisheries 
-Economics and Islamic Finance 
-Information and Communication Technology 
-Biotechnology 
-Biosecurity and Food Safety

ASEAN Photo Competition: “#ASEANYouth Shaping the Vision of Sustainable Energy as the New Normal”

The ASEAN Foundation and ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP) are pleased to announce the ASEAN Photo Competition focused on the theme of “#ASEANYouth Shaping the Vision of Sustainable Energy as the New Normal.” AGEP is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammernabeit (GIZ) GmbH in close cooperation with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).

In accordance with Phase 1 of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025, ASEAN sets an aspirational target of securing 23% of its primary energy from renewable sources by 2025 as energy demand in the region is expected to increase by 50%. The increase of awareness and public support to the development of the renewable energy sector in ASEAN is central in mitigating the challenges that the region faces.

As part of ASEAN’s continuous initiative to drive an integrated, competitive, and resilient region through the utilization of renewable energy, we are calling all young and talented photographers aged 18 – 30 years old from 10 ASEAN Member States to submit a photo story on the theme of “#ASEANYouth Shaping the Vision of Sustainable Energy as the New Normal.” The photo competition, which is one of competition series under ASEAN Youth Energy Awards (AYEA 2021), aims to contribute to the awareness of the benefits of sustainable energy (solar, wind, hydro, tidal, and biofuel) paving the way for ASEAN’s cleaner and greener future.

Based on the photo story submissions, the 10 youth from 10 ASEAN Member States will be selected to participate in a virtual visual storytelling workshop in June 2021. The final photography projects from 10 finalists will be submitted to a Technical Evaluation Committee and a total prize of 2,000 USD will be awarded to the Top 3 Winners and the People’s Choice Award Winner, announced at the 39th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting 2021.

  1. Creative and talented youth that holds an ASEAN Member State passport (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) and resides in the country of citizenship.
  2. Amateur photographers and interested youth are encouraged to apply. Note: Professional photographers who are full-time employees or contributors of established media outlets and/or have their own photography firms are not eligible to participate.
  3. The applicants must be aged 18 to 30 years old at the time of the deadline of submission on 30 April 2021.
  4. Selected finalists must be able to communicate fluently in both spoken and written English to be able to participate in the virtual workshop.
  5. Selected finalists must have active Facebook and Gmail accounts for ease of communication with the trainer and other participants.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED

The content of the image must not be changed or manipulated by rearranging, adding, or deleting individuals and/or items from within the picture. Color modifications or transformations to grayscale that do not change the content are allowed. The narrative should be in English, or if created in local language it should be complemented with English translation.
  3. The applicant should upload their photo story related to the above-mentioned theme on their respective social media channels and tag @aseanfoundation @aseanenergy with hashtags #SustainableEnergyastheNewNormal #SwitchtoSustainableEnergy.
